Precision of mechanoregulation measurements

Establishing how reliably imaging and simulations can relate local formation and resorption to mechanical stimulus.

To interpret a biological response, we first need to know how reliably we can measure it. This technical study assesses the precision of bone mechanoregulation measurements in humans using longitudinal HR-pQCT.

The workflow combines image registration, local formation and resorption measurements, and finite element estimates of mechanical stimulus. Repeat measurements quantify the reproducibility of this relationship.

It provides a measurement foundation for asking whether disease, treatment, or changes in loading alter the way bone responds to its mechanical environment.
